"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!

first you go to your personal settings page. Click on the avatar load button. This will open a new window where you choose a 50x50 pixel sized picture that's at most 15kb big.
second, you select the icon you want and then click 'enter'. The thing will load and then you scroll down to the bottom and press enter. after that it will take a few minutes for it to load.
and there you have it! a new icon
